Jio Google + Facebook Vs Data Security

Let’s talk about Jio, The largest 4G network in India which offers high-speed mobile internet connection & an engaging digital ecosystem for a seamless digital experience.

Jio recently raised ₹1,52,056 crore i.e. 20.29 billion Dollars from various investors around the world.

Last year Microsoft and Jio collaborated.
The deal would help the small and medium business to get online and use Microsoft Cloud-based Azure services with Office 365.
This cloud service helped the JioMeet to be a cloud-based video calling service

A few months back Qualcomm took 0.15% stake. This partnership would help in expanding the 5G infrastructure within the country and come up with a new 5G phone at some affordable price.

Intel partners with Jio with 0.39% stake.
Facebook invested with taking a 9.99% stake and now Google with a 7.7% stake.

What does this all mean?

We might be able to see a new smartphone based on Android and Qualcomm processor (hopefully a non-Chinese branded Indian smartphone with Qualcomm processor)

A laptop with Intel chip and Microsoft operating system.

But right now we won’t be talking about their deal, instead talk about how the deal would impact our lives and our data.

Will our data be secured with these companies?

Jio coming together with 2 tech giants namely Google and Facebook, the two companies which have also previously alleged for their data collection strategy by offering their free services, will be a good option to start with when the 500 million Indian customers who haven’t yet got their hands on the Internet and its service a good move?

Everyone knows that Google collects your data and gives you a recommendation of their services, search, ads on their platform.

A recent tweet from Google CEO Sundar Pichai which said and I quote “Privacy is at the heart of everything we do, and we’ll keep challenging ourselves to do more with less. As a next step, today we’re changing our data retention practices to make auto-delete the default for our core activity settings.”

This clearly stated that your data is with Google for at least 3 months.

And now talking about Facebook, the company which was involved in the Cambridge Analytica Scam which led to the success of Trump’s win and Brexit.

When such two tech giants which are often involved in such data collection strategy come together with India’s largest telecom giant to launch its new offering specially crafted for India and its consumers often come’s down to the one question,

Will our data be safe when first time Internet user comes online?

As of now, India doesn’t have a Personal Data Protection Bill 2019 passed which would raise some concern.

To the people who don’t know about this bill, you can read about it here
